I recently attended the memorial service of a dear friend and mentor, Bill O. The service described a man, like myself, who went through a profound transformation. Everyone who spoke about Bill - from childhood friend, reconciled brother and pastor of the church talked about him as a spiritually wise man with a strong faith and a heart to help others find what he had. Only God can perform this miracle of transformation - using his instrument of 12 steps, willing mentors [sponsors] and a group of giving servants - our Higher Power can not only change a persons heart but can help them be the light that attracts others from their dark places. Bill went though traumatic events which led him to dark places that almost cost him his life, which I can identify with. He found a new life that was full of hope and a God that helped him put away the past and to see how the transformation he experienced could apply to all of us - Quiet Bill was his nickname but in that quiet place was a heart filled with faith and a burning desire to help others. I pray I can live like Bill and help the next person to walk away from their dark place and enjoy a little more light in their own lives...

Well said. Pastor referred to Bill as a “wounded healer”. Beautiful sentiment for a beautiful man. I’ll always remember him telling me; “Be good to yourself.” My goal will be just that, be good to myself, but hope to be even better to others. God bless you Billy. You walked the walk, my Brother. 🙏✌️
